Online Safety Act Petition: How to Sign to Repeal It

The bakcground: On July 25, 2025, the UK enacted the Online Safety Act, which mainly involves children's online security. It requires various websites and applications to take protective measures for children who are not supposed to harmful information such as adult content and violence.

Therefore, many websites are affected, especially social media and adult content platforms. These platforms have to strictly require users to provide age verification information. For users whose age is unknown, filtering measures are taken to filter sensitive content, such as  on Twitter.

About the petition: However, many users believe that this move will infringe on personal privacy and lose rights such as freedom of speech. Therefore, so far, many British citizens have applied to repeal the Online Safety Act. Well, the Parliament responded on July 28 that there is no plan to cancel the Act at present.

According to the official website of the UK Parliament, there are 375,929 signatures for the petition to repeal the Act. Parliament will consider passing the debate when the number of petitioners exceeds 100,000 signatures. Therefore, the debate will be held later.

Step 1. Go to the site: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/722903.

Step 2. Click the "Sign This Petition" button.

Step 3. Fill in the blank about your name, email, location, postcode. Only British citizens or UK residents have the right to sign.

Step 4. Then click the "Continue" button to check your email again. Follow its steps and it can be completed quickly. 

The petition's deadline is 22 October, 2025.
